Foundations
are an integral part of social life. Alongside their corporate documents, they
archive immense quantities of research-relevant data. This includes bequests
from high-profile figures, historic documents and manuscripts, individual
objects and collections. Documents in foundation archives encompass a spectrum
of themes covering all areas of society: from politics to culture, science and
the humanities, economics all the way through to social welfare and sport.
The project »Indexing and Documentation of Foundation Archives« provided systematic access to the holdings of foundation archives for the first time, granting researchers, journalists and all interested parties access to these materials. The project was a collaboration between the Association of German Foundations (Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen) and the Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for Cultural Techniques at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
