gamelab.berlin researches the possibilities and limits of the »cultural technology of the game« from interdisciplinary viewpoints and multiple perspectives. It is based on the cultural theory hypothesis of an »age of the game«. What can cultural technology achieve in the area of knowledge-producing processes? Where and under what conditions can the physical or virtual knowledge space become a games space in which new things can transpire? In view of the complexity of the object of investigation, the emergent Gamelab working group (begun in 2013) has started by isolating specific issues and has conducted experiments, using specific processes of Gestaltung. The programme is concerned with divergence of projects and will be synthesised in two overarching publication projects. Theorisation and historicisation complement each other and are supplemented by a number of prototypical applications, which in turn provide empirical data.
