Sven Sappelt studied Cultural Science and aesthetic practice in the areas of art, theatre and philosophy at the University of Hildesheim and was awarded a doctorate in Philosophy. In his professional career, he has served both scientific and cultural fields on an equal basis. Among other things, he created the international Master's programme »Studies in European Culture« for the Excellence Cluster at the University of Konstanz in 2007. The programme focuses in particular on global interdependencies. At Ruhr-Universität Bochum, he founded the »C60/Collaboratorium für kulturelle Praxis« (collaboration project for cultural practice) in 2012 as an inner city interdisciplinary project space. 

Till august 2016, Sven Sappelt was a curator at the Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for the Study of Cultural Competencies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and is responsible for representing the university at the new palace of Berlin – Humboldt Forum (a centre of arts, culture and science).
