W3- Endowed Professorship for "Theory and Practice of Curation"

at the earliest possible date and limited for 5 years.

The professorship is intended to represent the thematic field of curatorial practice as an interdisciplinary form of knowledge, its theory and history in research and teaching. Based on the historical-theoretical research approach on cultural techniques, the professorship will reflect on and shape current research subjects and relate them to the material objects associated with these processes. The professorship is located at the Hermann von Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik. It cooperates closely with the Executive Board of the Academy of the “Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss” and supports it with its expertise, especially in the programmatic orientation and scientific evaluation. In addition, the professorship will cooperate with the Cluster of Excellence “Matters of Activity. Image Space Material” and the Institute for Cultural History and Theory, in order to help to design their activities and formats in the context of the Humboldt Forum.

We are looking for a person who represent the topic of the professorship in research and
teaching as broadly as possible and who are qualified in the following areas of
specialisation:
  • experience in conception, realisation and organisation of innovative interdisciplinary exhibition and communication projects
  • internationally proven research on material knowledge cultures and design processes in connection with exhibition and mediation projects
  • excellent, relevant dissertation and additional scientific research achievements documented by publications, exhibition catalogues or similar successful acquisition of third-party funds
  • experience in interdisciplinary project-oriented teaching
  • excellent knowledge of German and English

The acquisition of third-party funding is expected.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the Berliner Hochschulgesetz.
