Powell, the Executive Director of the Academy for Healthcare Infrastructure at the National Institute of Building Sciences in Washington DC. He will set the stage by exploring recent advancement in healthcare infrastructures illustrated by a case study of a well-functioning Healthcare System in the US. In addition Four Sections of speakers and moderators will further explore recent work.

The base project »Health & Gestaltung« is an instrumental part of  the Cluster of Excellence Image Knowledge Gestaltung. An Interdisciplinary Laboratory at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It will be publicly present  for the first time, exploring the results of work done in the past year. The focus of this segment of the conference is to show how various fields of knowledge convene to produce actionable design oriented projects, which could only come about through preceeding theoretical considerations.

The Conference takes place in the Italian Embassy in Berlin as a reflection of the strategic partnership between the cities of Berlin and Torino, which will officially be announced in Berlin on the occasion of the Conference. The Conference »Health & Gestaltung« forms part of the festivities, that will be formally sealed by a visit of Bundespräsident Gauck to Torino to meet with the Italian President Napolitano on the 11th Dec.14 – one day after the conference, in Torino.

Dignitaries of the City of Torino will be present at the conference. The stategic intention of the collaboration of the two cities is accentuated by additional academic collaborations, here marked by a contribution by Dott. Laura Morgagni of Torino Wireless.

The intention of centering on the Modern Patient is to enhance the much needed quest for change, suggesting that the patient is also a Homo Urbanus – the main agent of change in the Modern City. That in turn puts the central contribution to a better healthcare infrastructure which is centered on the City.
