Daniel Baum is the head of the working group »Image Analysis in Biology and Materials Science« at the Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB). He studied computer science at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and at the University of Edinburgh. He received his Dr. rer. nat degree from the Freie Universität Berlin in 2007, specializing in comparative molecular surface analysis. His current research interests are in the fields of visualizing molecules, image segmentation and analysis, as well as extraction and shape analysis of biological anatomical structures.
Together with the Cluster’s biologists and psychologists, he investigates the variability of forms in crabs using threedimensional analysis.
