Interdisciplinary Laboratory
Priority Area Projects:

Hajar Razi is a mechanical engineer. She has worked in the interdisciplinary field of biomechanics and she received her PhD from TU Berlin in collaboration with Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin for her research on how bone adapts to mechanical stimulation. She then joined Peter Fratzl’s laboratory to study the theory behind toughening mechanisms in plywood structures such as bone. The mechanical engineer and biomaterial researcher is now interested in the structural and mechanical characteristics of self-moving biomaterials. Her study investigates the mechanics behind self-moving function of the filtering house of free-swimming tunicate. In addition, her research looks into the structural and mechanical properties of Banksia seed capsules that open in the vicinity of or after fires.
