Iris Därmann is professor for Cultural Theory and Aesthetics at the Institute for Cultural History and Theory at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. From 2009 to 2011 she was endowed as professor for History of Cultural Theories at the Excellence Cluster Topoi. 

She studied philosophy, sociology and social psychology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where she obtained her doctorate as a fellow at the post-graduate program for Phenomenology and Hermeneutics in 1993. In 2003 she received her venia legendi in PhiloProfessor Dr Iris Därmann is Professor of Cultural Theory and Aesthetics at the Institute of Cultural History and Theory at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. From 2009 to 2011 she was an endowed professor of History of Cultural Theories at the Excellence Cluster »Topoi«. In 2003 she received her venia legendi in Philosophy and Cultural Theory at Leuphana, the University of Lüneburg. From 2005 to 2006 she was Visiting Fellow at IFK, Vienna, and Visiting Scholar within the Leibnizpreis Research Initiative »Cultural Theory and Political Theory of the Imaginary« at the University of Konstanz. From 2007 to 2008 she was a Fellow  at the Institute for Advanced Study as part of the Excellence Cluster »Cultural Foundations of Social Integration« at the University of Konstanz and in 2012/2013 at IKKM (Internationale Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie), Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar.  From 2009 to 2011 she was President of the Deutsche  Gesellschaft für Phänomenologische Forschung (German Society for Phenomenological Research). Since the summer term of 2012 she has been Vice Dean of the Philosophische Fakultät and since 2013 Director of the Institute of Cultural History and Theory at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Since the winter term 2012/2013 she has been the spokesperson for the research unit »Oikonomia/Ökonomie« (Oikonomia/Economics) at the Excellence Cluster Topoi and leader of a sub-project within the Special Research Field »Transformations of Antiquity«.
