Jochen Hennig was a research associate at the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik (Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for the Study of Cultural Competencies) and commissioner for the chairmanship collection at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. As such, he had a central, coordinating role in the further development of the Humboldt-Universität collections, which are decentralised and located in the respective subject areas. The web portal provides an overview of the HU collections: www.sammlungen.hu-berlin.de/
Hennig studied physics in Münster, Edinburgh, Granada and Oldenburg. He wrote his dissertation on image practices in the scanning tunnelling microscopy of the 1980s. At the Helmholtz Centre, he worked in the department »Das Technische Bild« and on the project »Visualisierung in der Wissenschaftskommunikation« financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. He curated the special exhibition »Images of the Atom. Twentieth-century strategies for depicting atoms« at the Deutsches Museum in Munich (in collaboration with Charlotte Bigg, 2007) and was head of the Berlin anniversary exhibition »WeltWissen. 300 Jahre Wissenschaften in Berlin« (Martin-Gropius-Bau, 2010).
