Holger Schulze, who was recently appointed Professor in Musicology at the University of Copenhagen, obtained his doctorate from the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1998 with a comparatistic dissertation on the literature, music and art history of aleatorics. In 2007 he qualified with a professorial dissertation in Cultural Studies at the University of the Arts, Berlin with a thesis on the relation between intimacy and »mediality«. He was co-founder and between 2000 and 2009 the first Head of department of the new M.A. programme in Sound Studies at the University of the Arts Berlin as well as Visiting Professor in the Anthropology of Sound and Acoustic Ecology at the University of the Arts. Since 2008 he has acted as chief editor of the book series »Sound Studies« (transcript Verlag). Holger Schulze has been a Visiting Professor at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo, at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and at the Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. Since 2010 he has headed the international research network »Sound in Media Culture«, which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), as well as Director of the Sound Studies Lab.
