Philipp Zitzlsperger studied History of Art, Classical Archaeology and Modern History at Münster and Rome. His dissertation concerned the portraits by Gianlorenzo Bernini of baroque popes and rulers and their political iconography. He completed a doctorate in Munich and wrote a professorial dissertation at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on methods of analysis and interpretation of clothing in images. His research interests are the synthesis of the history of art with the histories of politics, society and ideas.
