Rolf F. Nohr is Professor of Media Aesthetics/Media Culture at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig and Academic Dean of the degree program Media Studies (in cooperation with the Technische Universität Braunschweig). He is a graduate of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where he studied Theater, Film and Television Studies, Philosophy, and Sociology. He obtained his Doctoral degree with a project titled »Karten im Fernsehen: Produktion von Positionierung« (Maps in Television: Production of Positioning). He worked as a scientific investigator in the Cultural Studies Research School (SFB 427) »Medien und kulturelle Kommunikation« (Media and Cultural Communication) at the Universität Köln, and was also Junior Professor of Media Culture at the HBK Braunschweig. Together with Britta Neitzel, he founded the scientific working group Games in the Gesellschaft für Medienwissenschaft (GfM), where he headed various research projects, such as »Strategie spielen. Steuerungstechniken und strategisches Handeln in populären Computerspielen« (Playing Strategy. Control techniques and strategic actions in popular computer games) and »Kulurtechnik Unternehmensplanspiel« (Cultural Technique Planning Games in Enterprises). He is the editor of the series »Medien´Welten. Braunschweiger Schriften zur Medienkultur«, member of the Graduate College »Das Dispositiv des Fotografischen«, and Regional Director of the Learning Games Initiative Research Archive (LGIRA).
