Roles
Interdisciplinary Laboratory

Sarah Kinzel studied Art History and Cultural History and Theory at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Université Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux III. A doctoral stipend from the Humboldt-Universität and a PhD studentship at the Bibliotheca Hertziana enabled her to undertake a research residence in Rome from October 2011 to March 2015. There she also worked as an assistant to Prof. Dr. Arnold Nesselrath (Humboldt-Universität / Vatican Museums).

Her thesis, »Soltanto domandar un tedesco? Deutsch-italienischer Künstleraustausch in Rom 1870 bis 1915« (Exchanges between German and Italian artists in Rome from 1870 to 1915; working title), examines the personal and professional relationships between German and Italian artists in the new Italian capital. Her other research interests are the practice of copying paintings and the link between painting and photography in the 19th and early 20th century.

She was replacing Franziska Kunze until October 2015 in the project »Attention & Form«, which examines the perception and categorisation of photographs and paintings in an experiment designed in collaboration with a psychologist.
