Sonja Breiding received her degree in conservation, art technology and conservation science at the Technische Universität München in 2002. She received the prestigious Ibach-Denk-Mal Stiftung Award for her thesis. Since 2002, she has been working as a freelancer in Germany and France and is involved in various projects at the Rathgen Research Laboratory in Berlin. Her work focuses on pesticide removal from wood and ethnographic objects. Since April 2007, Sonja Krug has been employed at the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, Division 4.2 »Environmental Material and Product Properties« and Division 4.5 »Analysis of Artefacts and Cultural Assets«.
